Fort Oracabessa (Fort Littleton)
Fort Oracabessa (Fort Littleton) is a cultural tour in Jamaica rated 5.0/5 by 1 TripAdvisor reviewers; lasts 1 hour.
About
Fort Oracabessa sits on a hillside above the small north coast town of Oracabessa, east of Ocho Rios. Built by the British in the 1770s and originally called Fort Littleton, it's a modest stone fortification — nothing like the scale of Port Royal or the great Spanish Town sites, but that's part of what makes it worth the detour. You get the cannons, the ramparts, and the harbor view without the crowds or the admission fee. The fort saw almost no action, which is why it's still mostly intact. Walk the perimeter, stand where the garrison stood, and look down at the bay where Ian Fleming's Goldeneye estate sits just to the west. The connection isn't historical, but the geography tells the same story: Oracabessa was always a quiet strategic point, a place to watch the coast rather than fight over it. Go early or late if you can — there's no shade up top, and the single review suggests you'll have the place to yourself.
