How much does a Jamaica trip cost in 2026?
Real 2026 numbers for a budget, mid-range and splurge Jamaica trip — 4 and 7 nights, line by line, from flights to tips.
By The One Happy Aruba Team · Updated Sep 30, 2026 · How we know
Bottom line: For a couple in 2026, plan on roughly US$2,900 for a budget week, US$4,500 for a mid-range all-inclusive week, and US$7,400 for a splurge week at a Sandals- or Secrets-tier resort, flights included. Four nights runs about US$2,200, US$3,000 and US$5,000 respectively. The resort is the number that moves everything; flights and tours cost nearly the same whichever tier you pick.
The headline table
Every figure is for two people, in U.S. dollars, and assumes round-trip airfare of about US$450 per person from the eastern U.S. (US$700 in the splurge column for better seats). Swap in your own fare; it's the one line we can't know for you.
| Tier | 4 nights | 7 nights | What it buys |
|---|---|---|---|
| Budget | ~US$2,200 | ~US$2,900 | Guesthouse or small breakfast-only hotel in Negril or Montego Bay, jerk stands and local spots, two or three cheap tours, the coach from the airport |
| Mid-range | ~US$3,000 | ~US$4,500 | A ~US$350/night all-inclusive (Riu, Grand Palladium, Bahia Principe), three good tours, transfers usually in the rate |
| Splurge | ~US$5,000 | ~US$7,400 | A ~US$550/night adults-only or Beaches-tier all-inclusive, private day tours, Club Mobay both ways, spa |
If you're one person, don't halve these: flights and tours halve, but a room costs nearly the same for one as for two. A family of four at the mid tier should think in terms of the 7-night figure plus roughly a third again for the kids' flights and a larger room; our family itineraries walk through that math.
Line by line, per tier
Flights
The same in every tier unless you buy up. Nearly everyone lands at Sangster International (MBJ) in Montego Bay; only fly into Kingston if you're headed to Kingston, Port Antonio or the Blue Mountains, because it's a three-to-five-hour drive to the north-coast resorts otherwise. Our getting there page covers routes and which weeks fares spike (Presidents' Day, spring break, Christmas).
The resort
This is the whole ballgame.
- Budget (US$100–150/night, 7 nights around US$840). Community regulars keep a list of breakfast-only small hotels in Negril and Montego Bay and point solo travelers to budget lodges in the Montego Bay and Kingston areas. At the extreme end, Dancehall Hostel in Kingston is around US$50 a night. Negril has the most hostel and simple-room options of any resort town.
- Mid-range (~US$350/night, 7 nights around US$2,450). The big all-inclusives with thousands of reviews: Grand Palladium Jamaica in Montego Bay, Hotel Riu Negril and Riu Palace Tropical Bay in Negril, Hotel Riu Ocho Rios, Bahia Principe Explore in Runaway Bay. All around US$350 a night, most with kid scores of 4/5.
- Splurge (~US$550/night, 7 nights around US$3,850). Sandals Negril, Sandals Ochi, Sandals South Coast, Secrets Wild Orchid, all adults-only and all around US$550, or Beaches Negril at the same rate with a 5/5 kid score.
Two things push the resort number around more than the tier label. Month: rates roughly triple after December 20 and fall to the year's lowest in September and October (see the month-by-month guide). Area: Montego Bay and Negril each have 49 places to stay with 16 and 11 all-inclusives respectively, so there's competition; the South Coast has 23 places and one all-inclusive, so you pay for scarcity.
Food and drink
- Budget: about US$80/day for two (7 nights around US$560). Jerk chicken from a roadside drum, patties, a sit-down dinner every other night. Community members are blunt that tourist-strip restaurants are priced high for what they are and that eating where locals eat is the single biggest saving. Less commercialized stretches like Runaway Bay and Discovery Bay have cheaper small restaurants, though a full-service bar anywhere costs about what it does at home.
- Mid-range: mostly included; budget about US$150 for the week for two dinners off-property and a few drinks in town.
- Splurge: included; about US$250 for one proper night out and a cooking class or food and rum tour.
Activities
Tours cost the same no matter where you sleep, so this is where budget and splurge trips look most alike.
- Budget (about US$250 for two): Glistening Waters Luminous Lagoon at US$30 per person, the Negril One Love bus bar crawl at US$26, a free Seven Mile Beach day, and a route-taxi trip to a river.
- Mid-range (about US$550 for two): add Chukka River Outpost at Good Hope at US$100 per person or the Dunn's River party cruise with snorkeling at US$133.
- Splurge (about US$1,100 for two): a private day with a five-star operator such as Liberty Tours at US$150 per person, the ATV, horses, zipline and catamaran all-access pass at US$164, the Rastafari cultural ATV experience at US$165. One thing the community agrees on across tiers: the Blue Hole is worth whatever you pay.
Transfers
- Budget: Knutsford Express coach, US$25–35 per person each way to Negril or Ocho Rios, or a shared shuttle at US$20–25 to Montego Bay hotels; about US$120 round trip for two.
- Mid-range and splurge: usually zero. Sandals, Beaches, Couples, Excellence, Iberostar and most all-inclusives include transfers. If yours doesn't, a private transfer is US$40–60 to Montego Bay or US$100–160 to Negril or Ocho Rios per vehicle. Full breakdown in airport transfers.
Tips
- Budget (about US$60 for the week): US$1–5 per interaction, US$5–10 per tour guide, US$5–10 per driver.
- Mid-range (about US$150): the same rates, more interactions: housekeeping at US$2–5 a day, bartenders, the Dunn's River guide who expects one.
- Splurge (about US$150): Sandals, Beaches and Couples are no-tipping resorts, so this is spa and butler only, plus off-property guides.
Extras
Club Mobay fast-track (US$39 per person for the priority-entry package; US$30–70 depending on options), a Digicel SIM, sunscreen (bring it; community members warn it's expensive locally), souvenirs, a resort spa treatment. Budget US$150, US$250 and US$600 respectively.
Where the tiers really differ
Not on tours, not on tips, barely on flights. Over seven nights the resort accounts for about US$840 at budget, US$2,450 at mid-range and US$3,850 at splurge; that line alone is the gap. The second difference is what you're paying to avoid: at the budget tier you're doing your own logistics (coach, route taxis, finding dinner); at the splurge tier a driver, a butler and a reservations desk do it for you. Whether that's worth US$4,500 depends on whether logistics is stress or the fun part.
One more nuance: the mid-range all-inclusives carry TripAdvisor ratings of 3.7–4.2 versus 4.3–4.5 at the splurge tier. A repeat visitor in the community said their second Montego Bay trip soured on high prices and indifferent service and they'd only return to Sandals there. Others say the opposite: that the extra money buys a nicer room, not a nicer island.
Where to save without regret
- Go in early December, May or late November. Same weather as high season, 20–30 percent less than April in May's case, and a fraction of Christmas-week rates in early December.
- Book post-Easter April. Dry weather, empty beaches, prices that drop the day spring break ends.
- Pick one big tour and one cheap one. The US$30 Luminous Lagoon night is as memorable as anything at US$165.
- Eat one meal a day off the strip. Even at an all-inclusive, a US$10 jerk lunch beats the buffet and gets you out.
- Skip Club Mobay on arrival if a transfer is already waiting; consider it on departure.
- Bring your own floats and sunscreen. Both are marked up hard on the island; one member bought floats online before the trip for a fraction of resort-shop prices.
Run your own numbers
