Jamaica Weddings and Honeymoon Resorts: Where Guests Say It Went Right

The Jamaica resorts guests rate highest for weddings and honeymoons, the legal paperwork, realistic package costs, and the excursions that make the week.

By The One Happy Aruba Team · Updated Sep 30, 2026 · How we know

Marry in Negril if you want the sunset and the cliffs, in Montego Bay if you have sixty guests flying in and need them at the resort within the hour, and in Ocho Rios if the picture in your head has gardens and a waterfall rather than a beach. For the honeymoon itself, the shortlist that comes out of the guest reviews is short and consistent: Couples Swept Away and Sandals Negril on the beach, The Caves and Tensing Pen on the cliffs, Sandals Royal Plantation and Jamaica Inn in Ocho Rios, and Round Hill west of Montego Bay if money is not the constraint.

The resorts guests actually write about

We looked at the share of recent reviews at each property that mention a wedding or a honeymoon. It is a crude signal, but it separates the resorts that host them constantly from the ones that merely offer a package. The three Sandals in the table sit at 14 to 16 percent, and the small cliff hotels in Negril are not far behind.

What the reviews say, paraphrased. Honeymooners at Couples Swept Away talk about the beach and about staff who knew their names by the second day; one couple eloped on property and their coordinator talked the bride into wearing her veil for a scuba dive straight after the ceremony. Sandals Negril honeymoons are described as stunning, with very good dining, and the same reviews are candid about service lapses on longer stays and a spa without a hot tub; the resort also sent a free private airport transfer for the honeymoon booking. Sandals Royal Plantation reviewers dwell on the butler service and a base honeymoon suite with a sea view and a walk-in wardrobe. At Jamaica Inn, a couple came back for their fiftieth anniversary after honeymooning there fifty years earlier, which tells you everything about the kind of place it is. Round Hill guests describe an "annual honeymoon" in the same villa each year. And at the big-wedding end, Half Moon reviewers praise the wedding planner by name and Grand Palladium guests who came for a destination wedding liked the food and pool but found the rooms dated and the transfer logistics confusing. We name none of the staff here; the resorts know who they are.

Legal wedding or symbolic?

Jamaica makes a legal wedding easy, which is a large part of why the resorts host so many. The requirements as the resorts describe them: you must be in the country at least 24 hours before the ceremony, you supply certified copies of birth certificates, passports, and any divorce decree or previous spouse's death certificate, and the ceremony is performed by a licensed marriage officer who files the paperwork. The resort's wedding coordinator handles the officer and the registration; the certified certificate follows by mail some weeks later. Confirm the current document list with your coordinator when you book, because it is the coordinator's job and they do it every week.

The symbolic route, where you marry legally at home and hold the ceremony in Jamaica, is what a lot of couples choose so that nothing hinges on a document arriving. The resorts are entirely happy with this; the price is the same and the photos are identical. Choose legal if you want the Jamaican certificate for the story, symbolic if you want zero paperwork risk.

What the package costs, and where it climbs

The big all-inclusive chains sell a basic wedding package that is free or close to it when you book a minimum number of room-nights, typically covering the officer, a small cake, a bouquet, and a ceremony on the beach or in a gazebo. It is real, and small elopements use it happily; the reviews from couples who married on property at Couples Swept Away and Sunset At The Palms describe exactly this kind of quick, warm, well-run affair.

The costs climb in three places. Guests: a reception dinner for forty, a private bar and a DJ turn a free ceremony into a five-figure event, and the resorts price these per head. Photography and video: the in-house photographer is usually mandatory or strongly pushed, and the packages are priced accordingly. The venue: a cliff-edge ceremony at a boutique property or a villa wedding at Round Hill or a Tryall house is priced as an event from the start, with a site fee, catering and often a minimum stay for the house. If you want the wedding to cost what the brochure implies, elope with six guests at an all-inclusive that meets its room-night minimum.

Guest logistics

Room blocks. Ask for a block at the resort and a second, cheaper block nearby for guests who will not pay $550 a night; in Negril the $350 to $400 tier at the Riu properties and Couples Negril fills that role, and in Montego Bay the Riu and Iberostar. See the resort areas hub for which mix each area offers.

Transfers. This is the strongest argument for Montego Bay. The airport is 15 to 45 minutes from the resorts there, so a wedding party lands and is at the pool for lunch. Negril is 90 minutes and Ocho Rios an hour or more, which means a coach, a coordinator's phone number, and a plan for the guests who miss it. Our airport transfers page compares the operators; for a group, book one private minibus rather than a dozen shared shuttles.

The group excursion. Every wedding week has one, and it is almost always a catamaran. The ratings say be careful: the two big Montego-Bay-to-Negril boat days in our data, the full-day catamaran to the reef, Rick's Cafe and Negril beach and the Negril catamaran and Rick's, both rate just under 4.0 across several hundred reviews each, mostly for pacing. A private charter, or a shorter sunset sail from our catamaran and sunset cruise page, keeps the group happier. Dunn's River is the other classic group day and works well for mixed ages; Dunn's River Falls has the timing tricks. For a smaller party, the Montego Bay: Rick's Cafe Sunset with ATV Jungle Ride is $70 for seven hours, rated 4.7 across 247 reviews, and the ATV, rafting and Rick's Cafe tour is $70 for five hours at 4.9.

A honeymoon week, sketched

Day 1. Land, private transfer, do nothing. If the resort sent a car because you told them it was your honeymoon, say yes.

Day 2. Beach. If you are in Negril, that means Seven Mile Beach in the morning and the cliffs at sunset. Book the horseback beach ride and swim ($90, ninety minutes, photos included) for the late afternoon if one of you rides.

Day 3. The waterfall day. Blue Hole rather than Dunn's River for a couple; the guides, the rope swing and the empty afternoon pools are the point. See Blue Hole and river tubing.

Day 4. Spa morning, then the Montego Bay clear kayak and drone photoshoot if you are on that coast: $30 for an hour, rated 4.8 across 245 reviews, and the honeymoon photo you will actually frame.

Day 5. A private driver for a day off the resort. JuJu Tours and Purpose Driven Tours Jamaica both run $75 for four hours with perfect 5.0 ratings across a few hundred reviews each, and Any Likkle Ting U Need is the same price and rating for the run to a jerk pit and a rum bar. One community suggestion was roasted breadfruit and oxtail from a Montego Bay street vendor followed by an afternoon with your partner, which sounds about right.

Day 6. Sunset cruise, dinner at the resort's reservation-only restaurant, the one you booked on day one because it fills.

Day 7. Late checkout if they will give it, Club Mobay on the way out so the airport is a lounge rather than a line.

If you are planning the wedding and the honeymoon at once, the themed itineraries include a honeymoon and an anniversary version of this week, and the trip planner will shortlist adults-only resorts by area and budget in about two minutes.
