Holiday Inn Resort Montego Bay All Inclusive is an all-inclusive 4-star resort with 100 rooms rated 3.9/5 by 5,337 TripAdvisor reviewers; typical rates from about $295 a night; direct beach access.

About

Holiday Inn Resort Montego Bay sits in Rose Hall, about 10 minutes east of the Hip Strip, with direct beach access that pushes its location score to 4.3. It's a straightforward all-inclusive—no adults-only gimmicks, no overbuilt water parks—and the 3.9 rating across more than 5,000 reviews suggests it lands where it aims. Rooms score 3.7, which is honest mid-tier; sleep quality edges higher at 4.0, and service matches that. Cleanliness comes in at 4.1, which matters when you're spending a week barefoot. The value rating sits at 3.9, meaning guests generally feel the all-inclusive price matches what they get. Rose Hall puts you near the golf courses and Greenwood Great House if you want an afternoon off-property, but most people seem to stay put. It's a reliable pick if you want the beach, the buffet, and no surprises—just check what the current package includes before you book.

Recent Pulse

What travelers are saying.

Steady

Low confidence

Travelers say the Catalonia Montego Bay (formerly Holiday Inn) delivers solid all-inclusive fundamentals—buffet variety stays fresh daily, beach access is beautiful and uncrowded, and staff warmth stands out, especially in the kids club where Serena and Elsa earn repeat mentions for face painting and crafts. The property shows its age with dated bathrooms and ongoing renovations blocking sections, but housekeeping maintains high cleanliness standards. Entertainment leans thin—mostly solo acts rather than themed shows—and you'll need to book specialty restaurants via app. Hurricane Melissa reviews spotlight exceptional crisis management by GM Winsome Hooper and her team, who delivered hot meals to rooms and maintained morale under catastrophic conditions. The resort sits 10 minutes from the airport, making arrivals easy, though local taxis outside the gate run $2 versus $24 for hotel cabs.

Standing out

Kids club staff (Serena, Elsa, Pauline, Irene) organize daily face painting, T-shirt crafts, and puppet-making
18 mentions
“My daughter begged to return—Serena and Elsa made her feel home with bracelets and feeding fish”
Buffet rotates Jamaican dishes daily with fresh jerk chicken, oxtail by chef Javaugn, and fried fish at pool grill
22 mentions
“Never ate the same meal twice—variety stays strong across breakfast, lunch, dinner”
Specific staff exceed expectations: Lashana (animation/singer), Damian (mixologist), Karen (buffet hostess), Donay (front desk)
31 mentions
“Lashana's voice belongs on radio—Damian remembers your drink before you reach the bar”
Beach stays quiet and clean with white sand, shallow snorkeling under 5 feet, and island wading paths
14 mentions
“Beach never crowded no matter the time—best snorkeling spot for beginners on this strip”
Hurricane Melissa response: GM Winsome Hooper's team delivered hot meals to rooms, maintained power/wifi, held Sunday worship service
5 mentions
“Staff risked safety rescuing trapped guests—debris cleared overnight, entertainment ran in lobby without AC”

Watch-outs

Stray cats (20+ counted) drink from pool, walk through buffet, sit on dining chairs—flies land on uncovered fruit
8 mentions
“Witnessed cats lapping pool water three evenings straight—napkins don't stop flies on pastries”
Rooms show age: window AC units, flat pillows, stiff balcony doors, hot water takes 10 minutes or fluctuates wildly
12 mentions
“Sofa stained, furnishings dusty—shower swings scalding to freezing, wore flip-flops every time”
Entertainment lacks energy: solo singers replace former folklore/fire-eating shows, no Spanish-language inclusion, mostly English-only
9 mentions
“Ended up in room by 8:30pm—no themed nights like when it was Holiday Inn”

Tips from travelers

Book specialty restaurants (Italian, Jamaican, Asian) via app before arrival—walk-in reservations freeze
Claim beach palapas by 6am or bring your own shade—only eight fixed parasols serve entire pool deck
Use local taxis across the road ($2 return to Burger King) instead of hotel cabs ($24 same route)
Tip housekeepers, bartenders, servers in cash—staff work hard and it's expected but not auto-added

Maybe skip if: Travelers allergic to cats, seeking deep-water ocean swimming, or expecting polished evening entertainment and microwave-equipped rooms should look elsewhere.

Sandals Royal Caribbean Resort & Private Island

Sandals Royal Caribbean sits on its own stretch of Montego Bay's north coast, adults-only and centered around access to a small private island you reach by boat. The 4.6 service rating and 4.5 sleep quality scores reflect the smaller scale — around 100 rooms, so staff know faces and the island ferry runs on a guest-driven rhythm rather than a fixed shuttle grind. The protected bay location keeps sargassum off the beach, which matters more than the brochures let on. The private island is the differentiator here. It's not huge, but it's yours for the day: Thai restaurant over the water, hammocks, a quiet bar. The main resort side leans British colonial in the public spaces, which plays better in person than it sounds on paper. All-inclusive pricing starts around $550 per night, middle of the Sandals range. If you want the brand but prefer a smaller property where the private island actually feels private, this one works.

Hyatt Zilara Rose Hall

Hyatt Zilara Rose Hall sits on the north coast near Montego Bay, right on the beach in Rose Hall. It's adults-only and all-inclusive, which shapes everything from the pool vibe to the dining pace. The 4.4 rating across 8,000-plus reviews holds steady partly because of how the property scores on service and cleanliness — both sit at 4.6, and that consistency shows up in the details people mention: staff response time, turnover between guests, beachside attention. Rooms and sleep quality both land at 4.5, which for an all-inclusive at this scale is above average. The location rating reflects direct beach access and proximity to the Montego Bay corridor without being in the middle of the strip. Value comes in at 4.3, reasonable given the category and the inclusions. If you want the all-inclusive structure without kids running the hallways, this is a straightforward pick. Just know you're trading some flexibility for predictability.

Hyatt Ziva Rose Hall

Hyatt Ziva Rose Hall sits on the coast between Montego Bay and Falmouth, right on a beachfront stretch of the A1. It's an all-inclusive that doesn't gate itself to adults-only — families show up, and the property handles the volume without collapsing into chaos. The 4.6 service rating across nearly 7,000 reviews suggests the staff keeps things running even when the place is full, and the 4.7 location score reflects the shoreline access and proximity to both Montego Bay's airport and the restaurants and golf courses clustered around Rose Hall. Sleep quality edges slightly higher than the room rating, which usually means the beds and soundproofing work even if the decor or layout doesn't wow everyone. Value at 4.3 is solid for an all-inclusive at this tier — you're paying for the beach position and the breadth of the food and bar options, not for boutique detailing. Cleanliness holds at 4.6, which matters when you're dealing with this many guests cycling through daily.

Montego Bay

Scotchies

Scotchies is a jerk shack on the Falmouth Road just outside Montego Bay, and it's where locals send visitors who ask where to eat jerk chicken. The setup is open-air tables under a covered pavilion, smoke drifting over from the oil-drum pits where they cook pork and chicken over pimento wood. The 4.5 food rating across nearly 4,000 reviews tracks with what you get: charred, smoky meat that's actually spiced right, not just hot. They also do festival, breadfruit, and yam on the side. It's cheap — the price level reflects that — and the value rating bears it out. Service is straightforward: you order at the counter, they call your number, you sit. The atmosphere is what it is: picnic benches, ceiling fans, reggae on the speaker, and a lot of people who drove out of their way to eat here. It's not polished, but that's not the appeal.

Montego Bay

Sugar Mill

Sugar Mill sits on the Half Moon Resort grounds in Montego Bay, built inside an old stone sugar mill from the 1700s — the working waterwheel is still there. The atmosphere rating of 4.6 reflects that: dinner under exposed beams and candlelight does most of the work before you order. The kitchen runs traditional European and Caribbean fine dining, and the 4.5 food score with a 4.6 service mark suggests execution matches the setting. It's resort dining, so you're paying for the occasion as much as the plate — the 4.1 value score tells you that plainly. Half Moon guests treat it as the special-night option; non-guests book ahead and dress accordingly. If you want a formal evening in Montego Bay and you're tired of the hip strip options, this delivers.

Montego Bay

White Witch

White Witch is the Ritz-Carlton's golf clubhouse restaurant in Montego Bay, perched above the greens with sweeping coastal views. The kitchen leans into Jamaican ingredients without overcomplicating them — jerk-spiced proteins, fresh catch, tropical sides — and the execution is cleaner than most resort dining rooms manage. The 4.3 food rating tracks with what you'd expect from a property at this tier: consistent, presentable, occasionally very good. The value subrating sits at 3.9, which is fair given the setting and the check. You're paying for the elevation and the tablecloths, not just the plate. Service runs at 4.2 — polished but not stuffy, which matters when you're trying to enjoy lunch in golf clothes. Atmosphere comes in at 4.3, mostly because the terrace works and the interior doesn't feel like a banquet hall. If you're staying at the Ritz or playing the course, it's convenient and reliable. If you're driving up from town for dinner, know that you're buying the view as much as the meal.
