About

Bernie's Pastry Shop is a roadside bakery in Fairy Hill, a small village between Port Antonio and Boston Bay on the northeast coast. With a 5/5 rating across all categories — food, value, service — it's the kind of place locals send you to without hesitation, though the four-review sample means it's still flying somewhat under the radar. What you're getting here is traditional Jamaican baking: patties, spiced buns, probably coconut drops and plantain tarts if the timing's right. The perfect 5.0 on value suggests prices are more than fair, which tracks for an operation this informal and this far from the resort zones. The service rating matters more than usual at a counter spot like this — it means someone's paying attention. If you're driving the coast road and need breakfast or a mid-morning snack, this works. Fairy Hill doesn't have a lot of commercial infrastructure, so Bernie's is filling a real gap.

Blue Lagoon

The Blue Lagoon sits a few miles east of Port Antonio on the north coast, where a spring-fed pool meets the Caribbean and the depth drops to around 200 feet. The water shifts between turquoise and deep blue depending on where the fresh and salt layers mix, and the clarity is the main draw. People swim, float on rafts, or pay a boat operator to paddle them around the edge. It's low-intensity — no gear required, no current to fight — and the two-hour window reflects how long most visitors stay before the novelty wears off. The $10 entry fee is standard for managed natural sites on this part of the island. Expect vendors at the gate and a small parking area. Locals know it as a filming location from the 1980 Brooke Shields movie, but the lagoon itself hasn't changed much. Go early if you want it quiet; by midday the raft traffic picks up.

Soldier Camp Bar & Grill

Soldier Camp sits inland from Port Antonio proper, on the road that cuts toward the Blue Mountains. It's the kind of place locals point you to when you ask where they actually eat — casual setup, Caribbean and international plates, and a 4.7 food rating that holds up across nearly 200 reviews. The grill turns out jerk and curry alongside burgers and pasta, so groups with mixed appetites don't argue. Pricing sits squarely mid-range, and the value score matches the food score, which means portions show up honest and the bill doesn't sting. Service runs smooth enough to earn the same 4.7, and the vibe stays relaxed — families fit in fine. It's not on the tourist strip, so you'll need a car or taxi, but that's also why it works. If you're staying in Port Antonio and want a night off from hotel dining without making it precious, this is the move.

Wilkes Cuisine Seafood Restaurant

Wilkes Cuisine Seafood Restaurant is on Folly Road in Port Antonio, where the coast gets rockier and the crowds thin out. The seafood and Caribbean menu lean on whatever's fresh, and the 4.7 food rating backs it up — people come for the cooking, not the decor. That said, the atmosphere subrating hits perfect 5.0, which usually means open air, water views, and nothing trying too hard. It's casual and mid-range, so families show up alongside couples. Vegetarian options exist if you're not here for the catch of the day, but you'd be missing the point. Service scores 4.6, which at this price tier means attentive without hovering. No reservations required, though Port Antonio doesn't exactly pack out like Negril. Walk in, order the grilled snapper or jerk lobster if it's available, and settle in. The kind of place where you remember the meal more than the name.

Belinda's

Belinda's is a roadside spot on the Rio Grande in Port Antonio, and the 4.9 rating across 87 reviews isn't inflated — food, value, and service all land at 4.9, with atmosphere hitting a perfect 5.0. It's cheap eats done right, which in this part of the island usually means fresh local cooking without the markup or the menu sprawl. The subratings tell you what to expect: consistently good plates, fair prices, and a setting that works. Atmosphere doesn't mean white tablecloths here — it means you're eating where the river runs and the vibe is easy. Port Antonio pulls fewer crowds than the north coast resorts, so places like this stay focused on regulars and repeat visitors who know what they're after. Cash is a safe bet, and don't expect a long wait. If you're driving the coastal road or coming back from rafting the Rio Grande, it's a solid stop.

Great Huts Eco Resort

Great Huts sits on the edge of Boston Bay in Port Antonio, about as far east as most travelers venture. The property spreads across clifftop and beachfront, mixing treehouse-style huts with more conventional rooms — all leaning into the eco-resort concept with salvaged materials, open-air showers, and no TVs. The 4.8 rating and strong location score track; you're steps from Boston Beach (jerk central) and a short drive to waterfalls and Blue Lagoon. This isn't a scene resort. The vibe skews quiet, wellness-oriented, small groups or couples looking to disconnect. No casino, no swim-up bar, no kids' club. Beach access is direct but the coastline here gets seasonal sargassum May through October — typical for Portland's east-facing shore. Room count sits around 100, though the layout feels more intimate than that number suggests. If you want polished all-inclusive convenience, look elsewhere. If you're good with rustic-chic, mosquito nets, and a soundtrack of tree frogs, it works.

Goblin Hill Villas at San San

Goblin Hill Villas sits on a hillside above San San Bay in Port Antonio, a 28-villa property that feels more like borrowed real estate than a resort. The location rating is a 4.7 for good reason — it's a short shuttle ride to the beach and close enough to San San's calm bay that you avoid the open-coast sargassum that piles up elsewhere on the northeast shore. Each villa is a standalone unit with a kitchen, which explains the appeal: you're not trapped in the dining plan, and the vibe is quiet rather than programmed. Service scores higher than the rooms themselves, which is the telling detail. This is the kind of place where staff compensate for wear with attention. It's not polished like the north-coast resorts, but it's also not trying to be. Port Antonio moves slower, and Goblin Hill follows suit. If you want animation teams and swim-up bars, stay west. If you want a villa with a view and room to settle in, this works.

Port Antonio

Polish Princess Guest House

Polish Princess Guest House sits just outside Port Antonio on a quiet hillside — beach access comes via shuttle, not a walk, which keeps the place low-key. The 4.8 rating across 161 reviews holds up in the details: service and cleanliness both score 4.9, and value comes in at 4.8, which is unusually high for a five-star property in the area. Rooms are comfortable rather than flashy, and the guest count stays small enough that staff know your name by day two. The setting is more intimate than resort-y — no casino, no kids' club, no swim-up bar. If you're looking for all-inclusive party energy, this isn't it. The eastern Caribbean exposure means seasonal sargassum can arrive May through October, and nearby beaches vary depending on their angle to the current. The nightly rate around $200 USD makes it accessible without feeling budget, and the walkability score of 4 means you'll want a car or driver for anything beyond the immediate property.

Bushbar

Bushbar is tucked into the Geejam Hotel up in the Port Antonio hills, and it's as serious about food as it is about not being a resort dining room. The kitchen runs international with a Caribbean backbone, and the 4.8 food rating across 547 reviews backs that up. The 4.9 atmosphere score is worth noting — open-air, elevated, the kind of spot where the jungle soundtrack competes with the playlist. The price tier is high, but the 4.6 value rating suggests people aren't walking out angry. Service matches the food at 4.8, which is rare enough in Jamaica to call out. This isn't a casual stop; the upscale vibe is intentional, and kids won't be comfortable here. Geejam's famously tied to the music scene, so don't be surprised if the crowd skews creative or if the wine list runs deeper than you'd expect this far east. Port Antonio doesn't overflow with fine dining — Bushbar is one of the few doing it at this level.
