About

The Runaway Jamaica is a small resort in Runaway Bay with a 4.9 overall rating and perfect 5.0 scores across rooms, sleep quality, value, service, and location. That's unusual consistency for any property, and it suggests the kind of place where someone is personally making sure nothing slides. The review count is low at 34, so this isn't a big operation, but the subratings say guests are getting exactly what they came for. Runaway Bay sits between Ocho Rios and Falmouth on the north coast — quieter than either, with easy reef access and less commercial traffic. Perfect location score probably reflects that middle-ground appeal. The value rating is worth noting; 5.0 on value usually means pricing feels fair relative to what you're actually getting, not just cheap. If you want a smaller property where the staff knows your name by day two and the rooms don't have maintenance issues, this is the profile that delivers it.

What travelers are saying.

Steady

Low confidence

Travelers say The Runaway delivers an intimate, locally immersive experience anchored by owners Jeff and Kalisa, who curate personalized itineraries, prepare restaurant-quality Jamaican meals using island ingredients, and treat guests like extended family. Most reviews describe small-group trips to Cuba and Bali or stays at the Jamaica B&B, where every detail—from locally crafted furniture to daily cocktails—is thoughtfully designed. Guests consistently highlight Kalisa's cooking as a trip highlight, mentioning dishes like oxtail ragu over mashed breadfruit and plantain waffles. The property sits near a quiet private beach in Runaway Bay, and the rooftop garden offers sunset views. One negative review reports a room type mismatch and remote location, but the overwhelming majority praise the experience as transformative and well worth repeat visits.

One guest received a king bed instead of confirmed two queens at full price, with no compensation offered despite nonrefundable booking

Tips from travelers

Ask Kalisa for the oxtail ragu recipe or jerk sauce before you leave—guests want to recreate meals at home
Book the master suite if available for balcony ocean views and extra space
Let Jeff and Kalisa know your food preferences weeks ahead; they'll tailor every meal to your diet
Plan at least four nights to balance curated excursions with rooftop relaxation time

Jewel Paradise Cove Beach Resort & Spa

Jewel Paradise Cove sits on a small stretch of direct beachfront in Runaway Bay, and it keeps things simple: adults-only, all-inclusive, just 100 rooms. The 4.6/5 service and cleanliness subratings track with the kind of place that doesn't try to be everything to everyone—staff know who you are by day two. Rooms rate 4.3, sleep quality nudges up to 4.4, and value holds at 4.4, which is fair for the mid-$400s per night in this part of the north coast. The resort leans into quiet and wellness more than party—think spa treatments and calm poolside afternoons rather than foam cannons. It's a solid pick if you want proximity to Dunn's River or Ocho Rios day trips without staying in the thick of it. Like most north coast properties, sargassum can drift through May to October, though staff generally clear it fast. Walkability off-property is minimal, but that's Runaway Bay in general—you're here to stay put or arrange excursions.

Bahia Principe Explore Jamaica

Bahia Principe Explore Jamaica is an all-inclusive in Runaway Bay that attracts families and groups looking for a full-service option without boutique pricing. The property's cleanliness rating leads its subcategories at 4.1, and rooms and sleep quality both hold at 4.0 — solid marks given the scale and volume here. With nearly 16,000 reviews, the 3.7 overall reflects what you'd expect: consistent operations, decent execution, and the occasional service lag that comes with size. The resort offers multiple pools, restaurants, and bars spread across the grounds, plus direct beach access. It's geared toward keeping guests on-property, and most do. Location scores well, partly because Runaway Bay sits between Ocho Rios and Montego Bay, making day trips in either direction manageable if you rent a car. Value is rated at 3.8, which tracks for a mid-tier all-inclusive — you're paying for ease and predictability, not cutting-edge design or personalized service.

Bahia Principe Escape Runaway Bay

Bahia Principe Escape sits on Salt Coppers beach in Runaway Bay, on the quieter stretch of Jamaica's north coast between Ocho Rios and Montego Bay. It's a mid-sized all-inclusive with 100 rooms and direct beach access. The 4.4 cleanliness rating stands out among the subratings, and the 4.2 for rooms and location suggest the property delivers on the basics without much fuss. This is a family resort, though the party score is low — expect calm over choreographed games. The north-facing Caribbean side means you'll see moderate sargassum from May to October, but the resort maintains the beach. The value score sits at 3.9, which makes sense at around $400 per night; you're paying for the convenience of all-inclusive and beachfront without premium amenities like a swim-up bar or kids' club. Walkability is limited — you're on-site or you're arranging transport. If you want a contained stay with reliable service and not much hassle, this works.

Runaway Bay

Sharkies Seafood Restaurant

Sharkies sits right on the A1 in Runaway Bay, beachfront with open seating and easy parking. Over 900 reviews average out to a solid 4, with food scoring slightly higher than service — the kind of place that moves volume but still delivers on flavor. It's seafood and Caribbean standards, no fuss, mid-range pricing that lands on the fair side of the value equation. The vibe is casual and kid-friendly, which on busy days means noise and a wait, but also means families treat it like a reliable stop rather than a gamble. The food rating (4.1) tracks with what people come for: fresh fish, jerk preparations, and portions that don't require a second order. Atmosphere scores the same as the food, which makes sense when you're eating twenty feet from the water with boats going by. No reservation needed, and that's usually fine unless you're rolling in with eight people on a Sunday. Cash speeds things up if the card reader is acting up, which happens.

Runaway Bay

Flavours Beach Bar and Restaurant

Flavours sits right on the beach in Runaway Bay, and you're eating with your feet practically in the sand. It's a local spot where the kitchen does straightforward Caribbean and seafood without charging resort prices — the food rating edges above the overall, which usually means people are forgiving the service quirks because the plate delivers. The atmosphere rating is the highest of the bunch, and that tracks: beachfront tables, cold Red Stripe, waves close enough to hear. Families show up regularly, kids included, which means it's casual in the best sense. Service can be slower when it's busy, but that's the tradeoff for beach dining without a reservation. Come for lunch, order the catch of the day or jerk chicken, and plan to linger. It's cheaper than most spots on this stretch, and the vibe makes up for any rough edges.

Runaway Bay

Moonstone by Vincenzo

Moonstone by Vincenzo is the Italian spot inside Jewel Runaway Bay Resort, and it pulls a perfect atmosphere rating—5 out of 5—which tracks if you've eaten there. The setting does the work: open-air seating, ocean close enough to hear, string lights after dark. It's casual and kid-friendly, so families show up early and couples claim tables later. The food scores a 4.1, which is honest for resort Italian—solid pastas, wood-fired pizzas, the occasional special that rises above. Value sits higher at 4.3, meaning portions are generous and the check doesn't sting. Service trails slightly at 4.0; pace can drag when the dining room fills, but the staff stays pleasant. No reservation required, though peak nights in high season get crowded. If you're staying at Jewel, it's an easy win. If you're day-tripping Runaway Bay, there are livelier off-resort options worth hunting down.
