Jamaica in February

Jamaica in February: 84°F highs, 71°F lows, barely any · february is peak season, no question. Crowds, hotel prices, when to book, and what's worth doing.

February is Jamaica's sweet spot — near-perfect beach weather with dry, breezy days and just enough cooling wind to take the edge off the 84°F heat. It's also the heart of high season: Presidents' Day and Valentine's drive crowds and prices to their annual peak, and every beach chair on Seven Mile gets claimed before noon. Bob Marley's birthday (February 6) lights up Kingston and Nine Mile with concerts and pilgrimage vibes, and Reggae Month wraps the whole island in sound systems and tributes. If you can stomach the $$$ hotel rates and want guaranteed sun with a soundtrack, February delivers.

Temperature

84°F highs, 71°F lows — warm days with sun and cooling trade winds, near-ideal beach conditions

Wind

Dry, steady northeast trades keep humidity low and make midday heat comfortable; breezy enough for sun shade but calm water most days

Rain

Barely any — February sits firmly in the dry season, expect blue skies and maybe one brief overnight shower all month

Crowds & prices

February is peak season, no question. Presidents' Day weekend and Valentine's fill the all-inclusives and drive rates into the stratosphere — you're looking at top-tier pricing from mid-December through April, with February at the pointy end. Beach chairs go early, Dunn's River sees the longest lines (midweek mornings are your only escape hatch), and dinner reservations at the better resort restaurants disappear fast. If you're booking now for February, you're already late — hotel inventory tightens and airfare climbs. The upside: weather and vibe justify the cost, and the energy on the North Coast is high-season electric.

When to book

Book flights and hotels 3–5 months out for February — ideally by October or November — or you'll watch prices spike and room categories sell out. Presidents' Day weekend (third Monday) and the week around Valentine's get booked earliest; if those are your dates, add another month to the lead time.

Our getting-there guide covers flights to Jamaica plus a cheapest-fare-by-month table to sanity-check February flight prices.

What to do

What February is made for.

On the calendar

  • Bob Marley's birthday (February 6) — concerts, tributes and pilgrimage energy in Kingston and Nine Mile
  • Reggae Month — February-long celebration across the island with sound systems, concerts and cultural events

Pack for February

  • Reef-safe sunscreen and a wide-brim hat — February sun is relentless and the UV index stays high all month
  • Light long-sleeve UV shirt for all-day beach or boat trips
  • Sunglasses and a buff or bandana for breezy boat rides
  • Water shoes for Dunn's River and Blue Hole — the rocks are slick
  • One light layer for evening breezes and over-air-conditioned restaurants
  • Dry bag for phone and cash on water excursions

Know before you go

  • If you haven't booked yet, do it now — February inventory shrinks fast and prices only climb from here
  • Presidents' Day weekend (third Monday) is the single busiest stretch; shift your dates a week earlier or later if you can
  • Dunn's River midweek before 10 a.m. is your only shot at avoiding tour-bus gridlock
  • Negril beach chairs fill up by late morning in February — claim yours by 9 a.m. or accept the back rows
  • Bob Marley's birthday (Feb 6) draws crowds to Nine Mile and Kingston; book that tour early if it's on your list
  • Resort dinner reservations disappear the day you check in — book your nights out the minute you arrive
  • Water is 80°F and calm most days — this is prime snorkel and swim month, take advantage
