Jamaica in March
Jamaica in March: 85°F days, 72°F nights, dry season continues · march is the second-busiest month after christmas. Crowds, hotel prices, when to book, and what's worth doing.
March is peak Jamaica: US spring break packs Negril and Montego Bay's all-inclusives with families and college crowds, Easter weekend brings Jamaican domestic travel, and prices hit their seasonal high. The weather is nearly perfect—85°F days, dry trade winds, calm seas—but you'll share Seven Mile Beach with a lot of other people. If you want the best weather without the chaos, aim for adults-only resorts on the South Coast or Ocho Rios, or wait two weeks into April when the spring-break wave recedes.

Crowds & prices
March is the second-busiest month after Christmas. US spring break (typically mid-March) floods Negril and Montego Bay; beach chairs fill early, excursions book out, and resort rates are at their annual peak. Easter weekend (when it falls in March) adds Jamaican families traveling domestically, so major beaches and attractions feel genuinely crowded. Hotel prices are high-season $$$ across the board—you'll pay 30–50% more than you would in May. The upside: every tour operator is running, every beach bar is open, and the vibe is energetic if you like that.
When to book
Book flights and hotels 4–5 months ahead—January at the latest—especially if you want specific spring-break weeks or Easter weekend. All-inclusives sell out their best room categories, and flight prices climb as March approaches. Wait until February and your choices narrow sharply.
Our getting-there guide covers flights to Jamaica plus a cheapest-fare-by-month table to sanity-check March flight prices.
What to do
What March is made for.
On the calendar
- US spring break (mid-March, varies by school district)
- Easter weekend (when it falls in March—Jamaican domestic travel spikes)
Pack for March
- High-SPF reef-safe sunscreen—March sun is direct and strong
- Lightweight clothes and swimwear—you'll be in the water most days
- Wide-brim hat and sunglasses for midday beach time
- Light rain jacket or sarong (rare showers, but possible)
- Water shoes if you're doing Dunn's River—the rocks are slick with spring-break foot traffic
Know before you go
- Avoid the third week of March if you want to dodge peak spring-break crowds—early March or the last few days are slightly calmer
- Adults-only resorts in Ocho Rios (Couples, Sandals) and the South Coast offer refuge from the family-and-college energy flooding Negril and MoBay
- Book excursions online before you arrive—Dunn's River, catamaran cruises and ATV tours sell out days in advance during spring break
- Get to Seven Mile Beach early (before 10 a.m.) to claim a decent chair; by midday it's elbow-to-elbow
- Easter weekend (if it falls in March) brings Jamaican families to the beaches—roads and attractions get busy Friday through Monday
- Hotel rates drop sharply in late April once spring break ends; if your dates are flexible, waiting two weeks can save 30%
- Negril's west-facing sunsets are spectacular in March's dry air—Rick's Café will be packed, but the lesser-known cliff bars (Catcha Falling Star, Ivan's) offer the same view with half the crowd
