The Anniversary Trip

This is the Jamaica trip you take when you've already done the loud version — or when you never wanted it in the first place. Five days built around mornings that start slow, dinners that matter, and one or two experiences done the private way. You'll stay somewhere small and excellent, skip the tour-bus stops, and leave with the anniversary feeling earned.

  1. Day 1

    Arrival & Settle In

    Afternoon

Land at Sangster in Montego Bay and take a private transfer straight to your resort. Check in, unpack, and give yourself permission to do absolutely nothing for the rest of the day.

    Evening

Dinner at the resort tonight — no decisions, no driving, just good food and an early night to shake off the travel.

  2. Day 2

    Private Raft, Quiet Water

    Morning

Sleep in. Breakfast on your terrace or at the resort restaurant — no rush.

    Afternoon

Book a private bamboo raft on the Martha Brae for just the two of you. Your captain poles you downriver, you trail your hand in the water, and the only sound is birds and bamboo creaking. It's slow, it's calm, and it's exactly what an anniversary should feel like.

    Evening

Dinner somewhere exceptional — ask your resort concierge for their best table within a short drive, or stay in if the resort dining is strong. Tonight is about the meal, not the logistics.

  3. Day 3

    On the Water, Your Way

    Morning

Another slow start — coffee, ocean views, maybe a walk on the beach before it gets hot.

    Afternoon

Charter a private catamaran for the afternoon. No crowds, no DJ blasting Shaggy remixes — just you two, open water, a stop to snorkel over a quiet reef, and a sundowner on deck as you head back in.

    Evening

Light dinner back at the resort or grab something casual nearby. You've already had your moment on the water — keep the evening easy.

  4. Day 4

Rum, Food & the South Coast

    Morning

Take a private driver south toward the quieter coast. Stop at Appleton Estate for a proper rum tour — you'll walk the grounds, taste straight from the barrel, and leave with a bottle you won't find at home.

    Afternoon

Continue to YS Falls — fewer tourists, more space, and water that's somehow clearer than it has any right to be. Swim, climb the terraces, or just sit under the spray and let the rest of the world disappear.

    Evening

Drive back and have dinner at your resort or at a nearby spot your driver recommends. You've earned a quiet night after a full day inland.

  5. Day 5

    Last Morning, No Agenda

    Morning

Your last morning in Jamaica should be unhurried. Sleep in, have breakfast, maybe book a couples massage on the beach or by the pool if your resort offers it. No packing until you absolutely have to.

    Afternoon

Private transfer back to Sangster. Leave with the trip still sitting warm in your chest — no rushing, no regrets.

Know before you go

  • Book your private raft and catamaran charter as early as possible — these fill up, and you don't want to settle for a shared boat at the last minute.
  • If you're staying at a smaller resort, confirm that they can arrange private transfers and excursions. Most will handle it, but it's worth asking upfront.
  • Appleton Estate tours book out on cruise days. Go midweek if you can, and confirm your slot a day ahead.
  • YS Falls has a small entry fee and operates on limited hours. Your driver will know, but double-check the schedule before you commit to the full south coast loop.
  • Tipping for private guides, drivers, and raft captains is expected — budget 15-20% for good service, and bring small bills in USD or JMD.
  • If you're doing the south coast run, pack water and snacks. There are stops, but options thin out once you leave the main highway.
  • Martha Brae rafts run rain or shine, but the river is prettier when it's not pouring. Morning slots are cooler and quieter than midday.
  • Dinner reservations matter if you're eating off-resort. Jamaica's best tables are small, and walk-ins don't always work — especially in high season.
